Managing large-scale digital and paid media for both advocacy and corporate social responsibility clients

Managed all things digital media for a variety of change-making clients in the voting rights, immigration, labor and LGBTI rights spaces. I crafted integrated digital strategies designed to stand out and accomplish real goals—using social media, ads, email, peer-to-peer tools, creative production and more. I also managed our intern program.

As the Digital Director for David Trone’s congressional campaign (MD-8, one of the most contested Democratic primaries in the country), I facilitated the entirety of our email outreach efforts, managed our website, and oversaw several databases of voters, volunteers, and contributors. Our email outreach ranged from email blasts by the thousands to targeted messaging at core constituent groups. In addition, I managed a team of four data analysts who help process these massive information flows. My work involved close cooperation with every facet of the campaign. Amplifying the press releases and social media content of our comms department, for example, was a central function of my digital strategy. For the political department, I worked to engage potential audiences for local meet and greet events. I also collaborated daily with our field team to help manage constituent data and keep our in-house mail campaign rolling.

At New Blue, a digital strategy firm specializing in email fundraising for high-profile Democratic candidates, I became known for writing compelling copy—some of which reinvigorated fundraising for campaigns that had been lagging. It was here that I learned the basics of Facebook activism, as well as the computer fluency necessary for loading mass email blasts. And because of our tireless analytics, the data for which I was responsible for gathering, I know what works in email outreach and what doesn’t.

ReThink Media is a nonprofit dedicated to helping other nonprofits with their communications strategies: everything from building an active audience to engaging reporters. While I was there, we gained recognition for our work to promote the Iran deal. I have been trained in every major and minor social media platform (most notably Twitter), with the goal of training others. More broadly, I know how information flows across these platforms, and I keep my finger on the pulse of the latest trends.As part of the Peace and Security team, I profiled over 150 journalists who covered our issues (nuclear nonproliferation and wasteful defense spending) with “intel” on reporting styles and tips for pitching. I also maintained our ReThink Defense Twitter account. I have built and updated press lists, editorial packets, and resources for rapid response campaigns. Most notably, I aided in the development of a comprehensive, message-tested strategy for engaging millennial audiences on nuclear issues.

I joined FDP as their only undergraduate intern, working in conjunction with the Communications Director and Press Secretary. While there, I drafted and edited speeches and op-eds, compiled daily press clips, and penned our party newsletter. I also took on research projects, such as an inquiry into the state budget, and provided support for successful state and local campaigns. During my time at FDP, I helped increase our Twitter followers to the highest of any state party organization in the country.
