I led international collaborative research projects, using and developing cutting edge computational approaches to investigate the influence of climate change on genetic diversity. In addition to publishing peer-reviewed publications, I developed a bioinformatics Python package and a Shiny web app for genetic simulations and data visualization. I earned the unique opportunity to participate in a two year Digital Fellowship as a part of the CUNY Graduate Center Digital Initiatives. Through this formative experience, I acted as a technical consultant for the Graduate Center, assisting faculty and students from predominantly non-STEM backgrounds with digital projects, ranging from data analysis in R and Python to using the library photo printing services. In addition to consulting, I led ten workshops on data science topics in R and assisted in more, ranging from topics in website building to general Python coding. I also co-founded the CUNY R User Group, fostering a community of R users. Here is a summary of my additional accomplishments during my PhD:▪ Led three international research teams to complete projects in spatial data science and genomics ▪ These projects incorporated bioinformatics, machine learning, statistical analysis, next-generation sequencing, remote sensing, and using high-performance computers▪ Earned $69,754 from 6 grants and 2 fellowships to conduct research, which led to 2 peer-reviewed publications▪ Presented work in diverse contexts– 4 national conferences, >10 chalk talk meetings, and 3 public outreach talks▪ Created a bioinformatics Python package that makes complex ecological simulations feasible for non-expert users▪ Developed a web app using Shiny (R) that simulates biodiversity change over time
