This role suited my wide ranging skillset. The primary focus for this role was to act as a bridging point between our development team, the rest of the organization and our clients. This often had me involved in client escalations, audit requirements gathering and software procurement. Being passionate about information security, I started to take on further responsibilities and saw me working directly with our IT, Infrastructure and GRC team. This gave me hands on time with our SIEM, our Windows environments and test audit controls. The critical interpersonal skill I learned in this role was to leverage empathy more. Being empathic allowed me to gain the trust of clients and colleagues, understand other peoples perspective and encouraged more positive engagements. Responsibilities: - Create queries within the SIEM using REGEX and JSON parsing. Displaying results using dashboards.- Assisted with conducting annual SOC 2 and ISO 27001 internal audits to ensure compliance with established controls. - Assisted with conducting annual vendor risk assessments.- Leverage the Mitre ATT&CK framework to identify any areas of concern within our Cyber Security posture.- Meet clients and partners to address cyber security concerns, fill out security questionnaires and act as an escalation point for clients. - Review internal vulnerability scans and penetration test reports. Coordinate with team leads to find acceptable remediation's.- Using a SCAP tool to scan Windows environments to measure compliance with DISA STIG standards. - Utilizing STIG Viewer to visualize SCAP scans and provide easier remediation management.- Implementing NIST SP 800-53 controls when DISA STIG controls to minimize friction. Things I would have liked to have implemented: - Implement the OWAS ASVS standard and use this to create a more focused secure development process. - Suggest the implementation of an ERD tool like Velociraptor to use for forensics and purple team activities.
