Vice President of Innovation Lab

John Considine is General Manager of Cloud Infrastructure Services at IBM. In that role he is responsible for leading IBM’s public cloud infrastructure including strategy, development, and offering management. To date, IBM has launched more than 50 cloud data centers that span the globe. John has been building advanced technology, enterprise hardware and software, and delivering “as a service” solutions for the past 20 years.

As the Vice President of the Cloud Innovation Lab at IBM, John Considine is responsible for leading the architecture and design of the evolving IBM cloud platform, focusing on all aspects of cloud computing from compute, storage, and networking, to software defined environments, platform services, and data center technologies. The Cloud Innovation Lab works closely with IBM Research, the IBM Cloud business unit, and the broader technology ecosystem to enhance the operational efficiency, scale, and performance of the IBM cloud.

As Terremark’s chief technology officer, John Considine is responsible for the alignment of technology vision with the organizational strategies and the integration of the processes with their appropriate technologies. Considine is also responsible for leading the research and development efforts that ensure the execution of the company’s long-term vision.Over a three year period, Considine and team developed new Software Defined Networking (SDN) technology, advanced storage stacks (including the use of flash/solid state disks), custom hypervisor development, and the creation of a distributed, global scal orchestration system.This team also heavily influenced the industry in the creation of software defined appliances for enterprise use. This included Network Virtualization Functions (NFV), as well as driving storage leaders to deliver virtualized versions of core products.

Director of the Platform Products Group - focused on delivering integrated products based on high contents of Sun's intellectual property. Product lines included the 69xx virtualized storage array, 5xxx series NAS, Solaris based NAS, Honeycomb (STK5800), and Rack Storage Servers.

Lead the NAS development team and provided architectural, design, and technical guidance for the NAS product portion of the PSX1000 multi-protocol switch. Oversaw the development and release of the Pirus NAS product including advanced development of parallel NAS functions and the Segmented File System. Author of two patent submissions in the file system and distributed data arenas.

NGI technology was created to produce sophisticated machine vision systems, specializing in the inspection of cold-rolled-steel and other web based materials. NGI produced a complete solution including the development of a distributed computing environment, advanced image processing software, specialized cameras and optics, as well as a unique fibre-optic lighting system.
