At Common Ledger I was tasked with leading the technical aspects of the company. At Flight Centre I led the development of gapyear.com, which is a youth travel website running on a LAMP stack and powered by the Expression engine CMS. It suffered from various instabilities before I took over and fixed and improved significant portions of the code base. I also completely over hauled and modernised key work flows and tools the team uses in their day to day development, this has resulted in Flight Centre UK’s development being bought up to industry standards and has improved the throughput our team can achieve significantly.Responsibilities:• Lead Developer of gapyear.com.• Providing advice and mentoring to fellow developers.• Development and maintenance of several internal tools.• Creation of our development environments and workflows.• In charge of sign off on complex Apache rewrites which go out to production.

ACC is New Zealand’s national insurance provider so its website and other related web properties are a very important source of information for the New Zealand public. As the Senior Developer I helped and mentored more junior team members and led the team in supporting ACCs web properties as well as completing several other high value projects. I co-founded ezyVet - a web based Veterinary Practice Management application. Having primarily designed and developed the ezyVet application and its related website by myself, the company expanded to employ a further two developers whom I managed whilst carrying out my additional duties within the company. As the first point of contact for clients with support issues, I either resolved the matter or assigned the task to another developer for a quick resolution. Think Concepts is an I.T company focusing on the pharmacy industry. As the only programmer on staff I was charged with providing any of the web based solutions that clients might need. As a student, I decided to try my hand at internet marketing. During this period I created a network of sites that eventually grew to the size of 100,000+ visitors per day. This gave me a lot of experience in handling large traffic volumes and the associated optimisation of both code and database that is necessary to handle such numbers. I learnt how to optimise my sites very precisely to target specific marketing key words in the major search engines and enjoyed a lot of search engine traffic as a result.
