About Corbin Warmbier

Rising Senior studying Computer Engineering at the University of California, Davis with a passion in robotics and autonomy. Loves working hands-on in embedded systems, deconstructing and understanding the electrical and software sides of a system. Life-long self-learner, looking for challenges to add to and improve the never-ending skillset. Looking to gain more experience in the world of embedded systems, especially in innovative applications.How I got here. Ever since high school, I found an immense passion in discovering some sort of obstacle or challenge, brainstorming potential solutions, and trying to bringing that solution to life. I found it fun and rewarding to see your hard work and effort pay off, but at the time, my skill set and opportunities were limited. Fortunately, however, I stumbled upon best place to explore this passion--robotics.Beginning at my high school robotics club, I had no idea what "programming" was, how to really build, or even where to begin, but the concept of building something and making it move was enthralling. It was like magic! I began by shadowing my peers, which was difficult at first since there was so much that went into building an entire robot start to finish--but this difficultly only further inspired me. I double downed and dedicated my free time to learn on the side, primarily through self-teaching.Throughout my three years of involvement in robotics, competing in both VEX and FIRST Robotics annually, I got a lot of exposure to the engineering process, learning how to build robots from the ground up. I gained most of my experience in the embedded systems side of robots (programming and interfacing with hardware) where I worked with various sensors (ultrasonic, touch, optical shaft encoder), pneumatic valves/actuators, and vision tracking (using a co-processor and camera to recognize its surroundings for aim-assist and autonomous control).These experiences in robotics have served as my first stepping stone in the world of embedded systems. This initial journey has since guided me to pursue a Computer Engineering degree and undertake various internships in embedded systems or software, which has only furthered my passion.
