Corey is a dancer, dance instructor, choreographer, and arts professional based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is a native of Houston, TX and a graduate of Houston’s High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. He also trained at the Houston Ballet Academy, Martha Graham School, Alvin Ailey School, and American Dance Festival. Corey earned a B.F.A. in Modern Dance Performance from the University of Oklahoma. He relocated to San Francisco in 2003 to work with ODC (Oberlin Dance Collective) for the next 12 years as a dancer and collaborator. He has since worked with many local dance companies such as the Margaret Jenkins Dance Company, Garrett+Moulton Productions, KAMBARA+Dancers, Imagery Contemporary Ballet, RAWdance, Printz Dance Project, Concept o4, and project.b. In addition to his U.S. and international stage performances, Corey has taught extensively in ODC’s youth, teen and adult programs, while participating in community outreach regularly throughout his career. He also served as an ODC Dance Company choreography repetiteur for San Francisco State University’s Dance Department, and has served on the faculty at Berkeley Ballet Theater as an instructor of modern dance. In addition to his activities in the dance community, Corey works at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art as an Assistant Manager of Visitor Experience. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing the daily needs of the Visitor Experience staff, ensuring that they are empowered to assist guests on a daily basis. He handles a variety of tasks including training and onboarding new frontline admissions and membership staff, keeping them up to date on procedures and programming, weekly scheduling, managing the SFMOMA ticket donation program, and attending to the resolution of visitor related issues. Additionally, Corey works as a figure model with Bay Area Models for the Arts, working with many Bay Area art classes, groups, and animation studios in both instructional and recreational settings.
