Becton Dickinson is a multinational medical technology company that manufactures and sells medical devices, instrument systems, and reagents.Scientist 1:One year contract member of the Material Science & Innovation group, where I supported the new product development of a medical device and the associated design of experiments. • Created 26 polymer solutions as part of a design of experiments to create a mixing method to minimize mixing time, produce consistent solutions, and to establish specifications on solvent system concentration. The design of experiments was created to give insight into the important mixing parameters to be used for scaled up production of the polymer solution.• Utilized FTIR to evaluate an undesirable and unknown solid that appeared during a new product development experiment. This gave helpful insight into the composition of the unknown solid. • Utilized a Keyence optical microscope to measure the polymer thickness of R&D samples. This gave needed information for new product development activities.• Improved the accuracy of the group’s HPLC method by 19% through the use of a conversion factor to account for the difference in the standard used and the analyte tested• Determined the viscosity of many polymer solutions using a Fungilab viscometer. This gave the group important information about the solutions being used in their new product development activities.

While a graduate student I worked on exciting research to design and synthesize small organic compounds to inhibit the BCL9/β-Catenin protein-protein interaction in order to slow colon cancer tumorigenesis.• Synthesized over 10 compounds that were tested to disrupt the Beta-catenin/BCL9 protein-protein interaction.• Determined the structure of 14 synthesized compounds by 1H & 13C NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry data.• Conducted many synthetic reactions ranging from 2 milligrams to 30 grams which were monitored by thin layer chromatography and purified via flash column chromatography.• Carefully worked with hazardous chemicals such as phosgene gas dissolved in toluene.
