I am a lifelong Detroiter, and if your reading this and your from Detroit, you know what that means, but, if your not from Detroit you may be a little confused as to why someone would start a bio in this way; let me explain. I am truly defined by my Detroit heritage, over 100 years. Detroit is a quintessential blue collar hustlers town. No palm trees, no movie stars, just hard working people who want it all. In Detroit there’s a term, grind, a term that may or may not be familiar in other areas in the country, but here in Detroit grinding means a lot and is truly a lifestyle. Grind connotes hustle, grit, patient impatience, sweat, blood and tears. To be called a grinder by a Detroiter is a term of endearment to describe that person who gets up every day early for work in a factory and comes home and works on their side hustle all while maintaining a family or that person who owns a bar restaurant, physical therapy clinic and a waste management company and in their spare time takes on a role as vice president of a Japanese language learning foundation so that inner city Japanese language learning kids can have access to native speaking Japanese. The former, countless people that I know in my community, the latter that’s me.With a background steeped deeply in real estate I embarked on a journey of business ownership in 2004 with my first LLC buying distressed bank foreclosures, developing the properties and selling them. I continued to hone in on my skills as a developer and business owner by pursuing new and more complex skills, hence my BBA from university of Detroit mercy and JD from University of Detroit Mercy law (where I studied mostly business transactions and real estate). As my skills developed so did my opportunities. My residential real estate development work grew into commercial / mixed use development and community development. Today, in an attempt to further our mission to make urban communities more safe and comfortable to live, I strategically target neighborhoods, acquire underutilized commercial and vacant residential real estate redevelop the spaces, activate the commercial spaces and occupy, with new home owners, the residential spaces. This is me doing my part. This is what I have chosen to dedicate my working life too, where I’ve chose to shine my light and focus my grind! ;-)
