Birmingham, Alabama Area

✓Created the Community Action Fellowship (CAF), a ten-session experience that prepares students, families, and educators with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully advocate for systemic change in public education and equitable outcomes for all kids. Through the CAF, I trained over 60 individuals, including BCS alumni, family members, and educators.✓Launched and convened the Birmingham Coalition for Student Mental Health, a group of 27 organizations and 20+ individual advocate members working on expanding school-based mental health support in Birmingham. In response to the coalition’s advocacy efforts, Mayor Randall Woodfin dedicated $1 million in his FY 2022 budget to Birmingham City Schools to increase the number of school-based mental health professionals.✓Launched Ed’s Policy Project, a research initiative and comprehensive analysis of the local and state-level education policy landscape, which engaged in over twenty-four research projects and published seven policy papers and briefs. ✓Selected to be a part of TNTP’s inaugural Community Coalitions National Cohort, which consisted of organizations working across the country to center their communities in their policy and advocacy work.
