Immediately following the completion of my engineering program, I began working in the Biosystems Engineering Research division under the supervision of a Professional Engineer. In this position, I worked with a small team to produce engineering code design values for structural insulated panels (SIPs) through testing of products supplied by commercial companies. I performed transverse, axial, and racking tests which includes setup of testing apparatus and calibration of equipment. The research results will be consolidated in a report that is to be submitted to the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC).Following completion of this testing, I worked on a second project involving the design and construction of a prototype greenhouse facility for sustainable food production in northern communities.

When the first LEGO Store came to Winnipeg, I was ecstatic! The LEGO brick has been a key element in my development and to this day is still a meaningful part of my life. In this position, I had the opportunity to lead a team of up to twenty individuals to perform merchandising changes as well as organized and supervised the staff each shift in daily operation of The LEGO Store. I personally ensured that excellent customer service was provided to each person that entered the store. I was also relied upon by the staff to patiently and effectively deal with any problem situations that arose with customers. This experience provided me with a chance to further strengthen key organizational and service oriented leadership abilities.

Based on my experience as a Season 2 contestant of "The Amazing Race Canada", I have spoken to a range of audiences of up to 200 people and on many different platforms includingpresentations for schools, conferences, charity events, and company fundraising events. I have prepared and conducted workshops on topics such as team building and perseverance while relaying the stories from my adventures on the Race!

During this summer term, I worked on LDH gene suppression analytical research related to type II diabetes. Early onset, type II diabetes is a major issue in Winnipeg and there is a large amount of work needed to try to understand this disease. I practiced and developed laboratory skills including western blotting, gel electrophoresis, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) testing. Due to discoveries made during my experimentation and analysis of the team's work, I was chosen to present our findings at the 11th annual Child Health Research Day (CHRD) symposium in Winnipeg.
