The tasks coming to IT are rarely in the same shape, form, and priority. I visualize this as a game of chess between the Business and IT, with both parties advancing or reacting. All moves are strategic, and each side goes in the game with the hope to win. It is a tough game, however, there is a degree of predictability that could be facilitated by many factors, such as knowledge of the industry, experience, or simply talent. A leader needs to position staff in the right place on the board to make that critical move. In simple words, when the task demands, you cannot move in an L shape, unless you have a Knight.
