Digitizing non-Canadian arctic vascular plants (Alaska and Greenland). Became familiar with broad taxonomy and the care of grass specimens.Systematically searching the collection by taxonomy (APG IV), and pulling all target material with proper signage.Precise application of the unique barcode in best-position per pre-established procedures by Collection Manager and Curator to each specimen from the target location pulled. All barcodes tracked in automated and visually organized Excel sheet. If a specimen requires repair, or is affect by heavy application of mercury salt, the specimen is provided appropiate action to ensure the continued safety of both the specimen and collection staff.Imaging the pulled batch in Capture One program using a light box, requires standing for long periods of time. Exporting images in both the TIF and JPG format requires careful attention to ensure the watermark does not cover any part of the specimen or important information.Creation of the skeletal data consists of executing R scripts to extract data from image files. Remaining data either propagated or transcribed into Excel as efficiently as possible.

Updating the vascular plant collection (CAN) to modern taxanomic understanding (APG IV, and changes since 2016). Worked on families Euphorbiaceae to Caryophyllaceae.Project involved a rigorous methodolgy to ensure quality of the update, and efficient workflow. Failure to be conscientious would result in the loss of specimens within the collection, or innacurate representation of vascular plant taxonomy; making the collection difficult to navigate and use.Unique concerns would arise with respect to unpublished species, and unrecognized authorities, requiring communication with, and input from, the Project Manager and vascular plant researchers.

Transcribing data, generating labels, mounting and packaging over 1,000 lichen specimens to be filed into the herbarium. Among them included a variety requiring special procedures; oversied saxicolous lichens, and delicate calicioids were all provided with custom and secure packages to ensure their preservation.Included communicating with Collections Manager, Researchers, and Associates to esure data and prodecures were accurate. Care was taken to inspect and identify pest damage and take appropiate action when necessary.All specimens were managed in an organized excel sheet to facilitate the reference of specimens following the end of my contract.

Point pinned backlogged insect specimens primarily Diptera and Hymenoptera. Direct pinned grasshoppers and pollinating insects for two separate ongoing projects. Prepared alcohol samples for domestic shipment in addition to generating labels.Assisted in a reorganization project which included handling and moving taxonomic families to their new cabinets following filing protocol.
