Urban Scholar - Office Of Student Family And Community Engagement
I worked in the Office of Student, Family and Community Engagement (SFCE) for Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS). I was teamed up with another Urban Scholar participant and together we worked on various tasks. I helped to create a document that lists colleges and universities in the state of Minnesota along with scholarships from those institutions and other state and national scholarships. I translated the document into Spanish to ensure that the Spanish speaking parents and student at MPS could adequately understand the scholarship application process. Parts of the document were translated into Somali and Hmong by other members of SFCE office and I created documents with that information to be used as the office saw fit. I was tasked with creating flyers and poster for the Connecting Parents to Educational Opportunities program offered by the SFCE office. Some of my other duties included attending various community events such as Somali Independence day, Somali Graduation day and Open Streets Minneapolis.
