I manage $3.89 million in grants awarded to 39 nonprofits or local units of government. These grants support youth ages 14-24 with obtaining work readiness skills and achieving educational goals to be successful in the adult labor force.Managed a $2.5 million federal grant to support youth with disabilities access and utilize Minnesota's workforce system as they pursue employment, educational, and personal goals. I serve as a liaison to other government agencies and community-based organizations related to youth employment and education.

Drafted a resource guide for students with disabilities, their families, and teachers in order to prepare students for employment after they have received a high school diploma or its equivalent.

I worked for the Youth Development Division where I developed the beginning of a resource guide for youth with disabilities. I assisted with applying for a federal grant designed to help youth with disabilities obtain employment. As part of the Urban Scholar program, I received professional project management training, professional development through Metropolitan State University, as well as leadership training through the Amherst H. Wilder Foundation.

Bloomington, Minnesota

I conducted research in order to protect, preserve and interpret the history and culture of Bloomington, Minnesota. I completed a story board on World War I and contributed to a World War II project. I also have experience researching at the Minnesota Historical Society, including looking up records, requesting materials, and recording the findings. In November 2011, I was elected to the Board of Directors of the Bloomington Historical Society. In 2015, I was reelected to the Board of Directors and I focused my efforts on social media campaigns for fundraising and general visibility of the organization. Reelected to the Board of Directors in 2019.

University Of Minnesota, Morris

I worked for the University of Minnesota, Morris archives and the West Central Historical Research Center at the Rodney A. Briggs library. I documented, digitized, and conducted professional research in the archives. I also served on the Archives Advisory Council, the steering committee of the archives.

Wellness Center U Of Mn Morris Campus

I am working to coordinate the efforts of the It's On Us violence prevention campaign from the White House task force and the Green Dot program at the University of Minnesota Morris. My position functions out of the Wellness Center and Campus Police offices. At the beginning of this project, the University of Minnesota Morris became the third College or University in the nation to co-brand It's On Us and Green Dot. Moreover, we became the only Liberal Arts College in the nation to co-brand the two programs. I have helped bring in speakers and host events on the importance of It's On Us and how students, staff and faculty can use Green Dot tools to help stop sexual assaults.

Minneapolis Public Schools

I worked in the Office of Student, Family and Community Engagement (SFCE) for Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS). I was teamed up with another Urban Scholar participant and together we worked on various tasks. I helped to create a document that lists colleges and universities in the state of Minnesota along with scholarships from those institutions and other state and national scholarships. I translated the document into Spanish to ensure that the Spanish speaking parents and student at MPS could adequately understand the scholarship application process. Parts of the document were translated into Somali and Hmong by other members of SFCE office and I created documents with that information to be used as the office saw fit. I was tasked with creating flyers and poster for the Connecting Parents to Educational Opportunities program offered by the SFCE office. Some of my other duties included attending various community events such as Somali Independence day, Somali Graduation day and Open Streets Minneapolis.

Bloomington, Minnesota

I Assisted guests with requests, such as buying tickets or merchandise to go on the theme park rides. Furthermore, I answered questions regarding the Mall of America and the surrounding area of Bloomington and the Twin Cities. I also worked with fast food associated with the Nickelodeon Universe theme park.

Morris, Minnesota

The Gateway program is a summer bridge program for incoming first year students of color. They participate in a rigorous four week program to ready them for their college career. Many of the students that are in the program are also first generation college students. My role as a Gateway Program Mentor was to assist the students with college guidance and questions. I served as a teacher's assistant (TA) for the multicultural literature and writing course that the students were enrolled in. I received multiculturalism training and professional development training for the program during the school year and for a week in the summer before the Gateway Program began.

Wrote stories pertaining to events in Bloomington specifically student organizations in the Bloomington school district.

Taught two classes in genealogy to members of the Bloomington and Richfield Communities at the age of 17 to much older community members. I showed how to research families, through paper and online records in domestic and foreign locations.
