About Cory Wilson

Over the past decade, throughout my career journey, one theme has been consistent; adaptability. My story began somewhat differently than most. After university, I spent several years pursuing music, specifically a path that involved not only writing and recording but also live performance and touring. I started touring globally with a band called Obey the Brave that was signed to Epitaph Records (Weezer, The Offspring) from 2015-2018. We toured Asia, South America, North America and Europe extensively throughout my time in the band. Experiencing different cultures and perspectives proved invaluable to me. I truly learned how to find joy in the little things, like having a coffee at a local cafe or finding a great restaurant in a new city! During these years, a lot of my time was spent learning from others (and myself) on how to better communicate and find balance in a role that was not a standard 9-5. My introduction to TA began at Shopify. I was a Technical Talent Sourcer with a focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. I was responsible for using both traditional and advanced talent sourcing techniques including full proficiency with boolean & Google XRay searching and I gained experience using a wide array of specialized sourcing tools (LinkedIn Recruiter, Gem, SmartRecruiters, GoodTime). I also partnered with recruitment stakeholders to ensure effective attraction strategies and the maintenance, improvement and implementation of top of funnel approaches. I was a key contributor on a project that involved re-engaging previously vetted talent. We did this by leveraging and cleaning data and by analyzing bottlenecks in the recruitment process with the ultimate goal of not only hiring but also driving improvements to the overall candidate experience.Prior to Shopify, I worked for First Bay Properties, with a mentor who truly motivated me to leverage and iterate on my skillset in order to establish myself within my role. This encouraged me to be a constant learner. As a Property Manager and Building Operator for First Bay, I was responsible for managing a large portfolio of commercial and industrial retail plazas in Ottawa and Atlantic Canada. What I found most rewarding during my time at First Bay, was establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with landlords, vendors, contractors, and investors. On a personal note, I enjoy playing guitar, going for walks with my partner and our three English Bulldogs (Bo, Drax and Duke) and collecting vintage concert shirts in my spare time!

Listed skills include Newspapers, Editing, Journalism, Social Media, and 30 others.
