Line manage and mentor from a technical perspective a team of architects and engineers on the design, implementation, and management of data center solutions covering: - Monitoring: including application, database, operating system, network, storage, hardware, and solution appliance monitoring, primarily with BMC Performance Manager, EMC SMARTs, and HP monitoring solutions - Systems management: specifically asset and inventory management, software and patch deployment, primarily with Altiris TMS/ITMS - Data center and cloud operation instrumentation and automation - Identity management: including provisioning, authentication and authorization, role based access management, and user activity tracking, primarily with NetIQ/Novell Compliance Management Platform, aka NetIQ/Novell Identity Manager.Cerner's data centers were designed and built from the ground up by Cerner and are recognized nationally for leadership in data center design innovation and efficiency. Cerner regularly reports a %99.99+ average up-time for all hosted applications monitored by the solutions I originally implemented, customized, and have continued to manage. Cerner's remote hosting supports roughly 250,000 concurrent clinical users daily. The data centers contain and our monitoring covers roughly 50,000 servers (physical and virtual, including AIX, HP-UX, VMS, Redhat Linux, Windows), 1,000+ Cerner built and owned private circuits, 10,000+ network devices (switches, routers, firewalls, and appliances), and roughly 45 petabytes of SAN/NAS storage.

Technology work described in the Manager, Cerner Data Center Solution Development Manager position, where I continue to perform technical and enterprise architect roles while in my management role. In the Technical Architect role my focus is on the design and implementation of a particular technology and as the Enterprise Architect I always consider the "big picture" when implementing particular technologies, representing our group in other projects across the company, and building functional and technology road maps.

Position in the US Navy to operate and maintain the nuclear propulsion systems for submarines and surface ships / aircraft carriers. Very rigorous qualification program taking 2 years of intense training and education, with fewer candidates completing the program than those that do. For those that complete the program, a very rewarding and challenging position follows learning technologies in the nuclear, electronic, mechanical, etc. engineering disciplines applied in a practical environment defending the USA. After I completed the program and qualified as a nuclear electrician (NEC 3354) I was immediately accepted by the Nuclear Enlisted Commissioning Program. This program typically accepts 5-10 applicants per year, and allows participants to earn an advanced engineering degree while still on active duty and to ultimately become a commissioned nuclear officer. During this program I found that my passion for solving problems and interests in technology made me well suited for a career in IT, and I have worked in the IT field ever since rejoining the public sector.
