I was appointed as Public Policy Researcher in a market leading public affairs team, supporting the work of the Director of Public Policy and delivering a high quality public affairs service for a varied range of clients. My role required a range of key skills including;- Research and analysis of complex policy documents, the identification of relevant material and the collation of information.- Excellent oral communication for engagement with MSPs, Scottish Government and local government officials, MPs, clients and external stakeholders.- High level written communication expertise, the development of policy documents, client briefings and Parliamentary briefings.- Presenting information appropriately to a range of audiences, from board executive level client stakeholders to grass-roots stakeholders.- Developing and delivering public affairs and policy influencing strategies and communications strategies.- Rapidly responding to a dynamic policy environment to ensure client needs are met- Parliamentary monitoring, including identification of engagement opportunities, requiring a strong understanding of the Scottish Parliament, devolution, interaction with Westminster and the practical delivery of devolved functions in Scotland.- Planning and delivery of Parliamentary receptions- Contributing to consultation responses.- Maintaining a professional and politically neutral stance and maintaining strong liaison with all stakeholders. This has been a particularly significant element of my role in the context of the independence referendum and ongoing constitutional change in Scotland.- Representing clients and team at events, engaging with think-tanks and liaising with colleagues and external stakeholders to align policy aims.- Training clients for Parliamentary Committee evidence sessions.

Research contractor conducting a series of human rights impact assessments on a range of NHS Health Scotland and Scottish Government policies. These practice examples were later utilised throughout a conference on practical human rights impact assessment skills. This project aimed specifically at demonstrating the added value of integrated consideration human rights, assessing high level policy in relation to ECHR rights, judgements and other international treaty standards.- Requirements included meeting stakeholders and presenting the human rights perspective at Scottish Government impact assessment workshops. - The assessments covered 6 forthcoming policies including plans for health and social care integration, welfare reform and dementia care.- In depth analysis of the potential direct and indirect consequences of each policy in relation to the enjoyment of ECHR rights - Encouraged policy professionals to assess policy impacts through a broader 'human rights lens' using international human rights instruments. - Key aim to develop a step guide to human rights impact assessment, providing a template for in house human rights impact assessments and demonstrating human rights considerations as a central and accessible element of all policy planning.

Worked as Team Leader for the 2010 Save the Children Campaign, advocating the work of Save the Children to the general public and setting team goals and improvement strategy. I was top fundraiser for Save the Children for the month of September.

Team leader on outreach fund raising campaigns in the Sydney area. Working alongside a diverse team this role required providing a professional, knowledgeable and approachable outreach campaign to support the work of the UN Refugee Agency Emergency Response Team. The role involved excellent communication with the public, high levels of self motivation and an adaptable approach to represent human rights based issues to varied audiences. I thoroughly enjoyed this role and received outstanding achievement awards for team work.
