I am currently employed in the Grabouw / Elgin area as the Farm Production Manager on a fruit and vineyard farm. The fruit is destined for the export market. All my management practices are geared to comply with the requirements for GlobalGap, Tesco Nurture and IPW (Integrated Production of Wine) accreditations. Included in this are Ethical Trading audits (WEITA). I am also responsible for crop protection, nutrition and irrigation management. Part of my experience has included the introduction of new generation rootstocks, cultivars and modern orchard technology, i.e. solaxe tree training system. During the past four years, I have gained much experience in labour management and leadership during difficult periods of unrest and unionised demands. I studied Agricultural Management with Management and Crop Production as my major subjects, at Saasveld in George. For the two semesters of structured experiential training, I worked in South Africa and England, respectively. Since then, my career includes farm and packhouse and fruit inspection in California, Pennsylvania and Australia. Whilst in America, I was also involved in the establishment of a Blueberry pilot project of approximately 40 acres.
