I manage the support and development of plant Process Information and Control Systems (such as the MES systems) and in particular the technical process computing aspects of the Pot Control for Portland Aluminium. My work uses both my IS and process engineering skills and often involves collaboration with the worldwide Alcoa process computing community. My role includes supervision of direct reports who help look after our site's process computing needs. I am also the IT Lead for the site, looking after the budget and direction of computing and information systems here. This includes supervision, planning, budgeting and vision of plant information systems.My technical skills include 30+ years of implementing MES, client/server and mobile applications as well as Aveva's PI product suite and the doForms electronic form platform.My major interest is to lead the site to introduce and develop mobile data systems using mobile technolog, connecting staff with the data and functions they need to do their job at the place it needs to be done.

Originally trained as a Chemical Engineer, I also hold computing qualifications. A big part of my job includes Project Management, maintenance and development of software to implement computer based Process improvement projects. My technical skills include 30+ years of implementing client/server and mobile applications using Microsoft technologies and tools (such as Visual Studio, T-SQL, C# and Visual Basic) as well as OSISoft's PI product suite and doForms' electronic form platform.My major interest is to lead the site to introduce and develop mobile data systems, using smartphone and tablet technology, connecting staff with the data and functions they need to do their job at the place it needs to be done. I have recently implemented a tablet-based process control interface for process operators, using secure 4G based network access, which has not only simplified the operator's work but collects meaningful information which is processed in SQL Server and then used to make management decisions.And I am the local plant Microsoft Teams expert, helping to drive productivity improvements, particularly in the current COVID-19 working environment.

A continuation of the work done in Yennora, with an additional role in the Pt Henry as part of a team successfully integrating and rolling out the Cimnet MES system to the Pt Henry plant.

Rolling Mill information and process control systems, Based in Yennora NSW. Extensive Citect implementation to all processing machines with a SQL Server back end. Starting on the computer help desk, this role grew to be a MES/process integration development and management role leading a small team that integrated PLC, Citect and SQL Server creating a MES for all process machines in the plant.

Acting IS Security Controller filling in for the permanent Controller while on leave for 5 weeks. Scope of work is Australia and Asia. Work involves scanning and scrutiny of Virus definition updates, Microsoft patch implementation and remediation, IS Business Case approvals and consultation on general IS security matters. Liasing with North American lead teams with respect to Global security is part of the role.

Research and Development work for 3 years designing carbon baking furnace flue walls and improvements in bake fire efficiency through computer aided finite difference modelling software. Designed improvements to NZ Aluminium Smelter homogenization furnaces and was part of team commissioning Bake Furnace 3 in Bell Bay, Tasmania. Later moved to Rolling Mill research, investigating roll/metal lubrication interaction. This role involved liaising with plant customers as a consultant

Research into food processing equipment and process control design to reduce process cost. Introduced CAD technical drawings to the plant drawing office in the early days of CAD. Successfully ran a project to rebuild the Whole Peeled Tomato processing line in 1989.

Vacation Student role, worked in Coke Ovens. Developed computer based reporting system for manual coke flue temperature measurements.
