About Craig Potter

I've been working in the aluminium industry since 1989, and have experienced IS-focused technical roles in research, rolling mills and smelting and in that time I have contributed positively at 4 Alcoa plants in Australia. I have been working at Portland Aluminium in Victoria since 2006 as an Information and Process Systems Consultant (IPSC) and have been recently promoted to a Senior IPSC as well as assuming the plant IT Lead role.I have a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering (Monash) and a Post Grad Diploma in Computing (Deakin) but my IT skills are mostly self-taught. Process computing, particularly computer process control and MES systems, fascinate me. I really enjoy leveraging technology to improve the process stability, cost and effectiveness by turning data into Information that can be used for decision making. Recently I have moved to a Information Technology management and supervision role, now formalised with my new IT Lead role at Portland Aluminium.Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) and Mobile information systems development and implementation are my technical interests and I have implemented a number of mobile solutions using tablet and mobile phone technology.
