About Craig Potter

I have over 30 years experience with Data and Telecommunications cabling and infrastructure, beginning with a Data Communications company in 1987. During this time, I have spent over 20 years working with networking technologies, certifying and specialising in Cisco architecture. In 1995, I joined News Limited - a national Australian publishing company and part of the global Newscorp group - starting as a Communications Engineer working up to the position of National Networks Manager over a 10 year period. As manager, I was responsible for an annual $5M budget for maintaining and improving national WAN infrastructure, with a team of engineers as indirect reports both local and remote,. I also controlled and negotiated Internet access and delivery, and 'whole of business" contract renewals and reported direct to the CTO and CIO. After leaving News Limited in 2007 i establish my own consulting company Advanced Networks P/L serving medium to large businesses, and also continued to deliver several external projects for News Ltd. In 2009, commenced a long term engagement with O2 Networks helping design, build and commission a Tier 1 Media Shared Hosting Data Centre environment for Telstra designed to host flagship products such as T-Box, V8 Supercars, AFL and NRL. I was also a lead designer of the LAN/WAN architecture in a $90M tender submission to Origin Energy for gas field exploration which was subsequently won by the client.I have led large complex transformations across varied industries consistently delivering to customer expectations, including; Coca-Cola Amatil national Network Refresh and Fabric deployment, HD Wifi expansion of Sydney Cricket Ground, the new Perth Stadium (Optus Stadium), the Sydney ICC and Entertainment Centre redevelopment, and migration of Nestle global applications to new F5 distributed load balancers. All of these projects required overcoming difficulties and solving problems in challenging environments using a consultative approach. • O2 Networks
    Senior Network Consultant
    O2 Networks Jan 2009 - Jun 2014
    Sydney Cbd
I have been in the role of Senior Network Consultant in O2 Networks for the past 3 years predominantly working on the Telstra Media Shared Hosting (MSH) platform. The MSH platform is Telstra’s first highly scalable multi-tiered environment designed to support multiple tenants in a virtualized environment. The project required expert involvement to design, build, test and provide operational handover of leading edge technologies that in some cases were first deployments of their type in Australia. The MSH environment utilizes a number of leading edge technologies from Cisco (Nexus 7000, 5000, 2000 and 1000v, as well as the 3000 series Cisco for HP blade chassis), Juniper (SRX 5800, 3600, 650 and 240 series) and F5 (Viprion). This complex design currently hosts many of Telstra's flagship Media products available to the public and requires high level expertise to on-board new products and maintain current ones through Firewall administration and F5 iRule and Virtual Server designs. This initial six month project was delivered on time and in budget, and I remained as a senior part of the O2 Networks team for Telstra who continued to provide architectural oversight and product activation into this environment for 2 years.
