Mechanical Design Engineer Placement - 1 Year• Independently taken on projects for the company, this enabled me to practice engineering design skills learnt from university, which has led to products that are approved and used on site. • Re-designed an existing release mechanism that is used on fibre glass operating rods which enhanced the overall design enabling a lean manufacturing process. The company currently produces thousands of operating rods each year that incorporates the new design that has sufficiently lowered the total cost per unit.• Used Solidworks on new and existing projects, saving the company from outsourcing the design and simulation work, which increased product turn around allowing the ability to create and change revisions in-house, giving complete control of the design process.• Sourced and quoted raw materials and manufacturing process for projects, helping the company to select the right materials within suitable industry standards at the best price available. The responsibility of negotiation and information gathering had improved communication skills by reporting to supervisors, and talking to suppliers on a regular basis.
