I have been a consultant to Mend longer than the company has existed. Rootwork helped the founder validate the technical feasibility of his business concept before he obtained the first round of funding. I acted as a virtual CIO/CTO in the early days of the company, helping interview and hire developers, translating customer requirements into software development tasks, and acting as scrum master. I have progressively handed off responsibilities as Mend has grown and brought on more full-time employees and specialized contractors. I continue to fill in various roles where the company does not have a full-time employee, including cloud infrastructure engineering, DevOps, and DevSecOps. I often work on "special projects" in new growth areas to allow employees to focus on existing lines of business.

I was responsible for all aspects of the STOKES high performance compute cluster (HPCC), the primary high performance computing (HPC) resource at the University of Central Florida. My accomplishments at the Center include:* Obtained a grant from the National Science Foundation to implement a dedicated research network at UCF (see the Projects section)* Oversaw a major system upgrade, including major infrastructure improvements in the data center and increasing the number of compute cores from 800 to over 3400* Expanded the user base of the system by over 50%* Collaborated with computational scientists and engineers from many fields, including chemistry, physics, biology, engineering, optics, computer science, and nanoscience, to help implement and optimize their applications on the cluster* Trained, mentored, and supervised a staff of four part-time student employees* Implemented procedures and created documentation to improve usabilty and reliability of the cluster* XSEDE Campus Champion

As a research assistant in the Hybrid Systems Lab, I contributed my quantitative engineering expertise to a multi-disciplinary team of cell and molecular biologists, surface chemists, and materials scientists. We developed functional in vitro systems, in which living tissues are maintained in an artificial environment that allows their function to be studied in a controlled way. I designed new sensors, instruments, microfluidic devices, simulation tools, and data processing software.

I was hired as a consultant by my former employer to train and assist other engineers as they took over my projects while I transitioned to full-time graduate school.

I designed radio-frequency (RF) signal processing devices based on Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) technology that are used in digital cellular telephone systems. Major customers included Motorola, Samsung, LG, Siemens, and Nokia. I gained experience with physics-based simulations, nonlinear optimization, statistical discovery software, and RF test hardware. I was involved in the entire product lifecycle, including specification, design, customer support, and yield enhancement. I was designated a Technical Leader within my design engineering group, and I was ultimately responsible for over 15 million parts being shipped to customers.
