With 15 years of experience in higher education, I am passionate about creating and delivering meaningful programs that foster transdisciplinary learning, equitable community-engaged scholarship, creativity, and social justice. As an Associate Professor of Practice at Virginia Tech College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences, I teach Hip Hop Studies and media literacy as well as manage True School Studios, and serve as the director of VTDITC: Hip Hop Studies at Virginia Tech, an award-winning program that explores the cultural, political, and economic impacts of Hip Hop across disciplines and communities.In my previous role as Community Engagement Coordinator and Assistant Professor at University Libraries at Virginia Tech, I led the development and implementation of various projects and programs that enhanced Virginia Tech’s outreach, diversity, and inclusion efforts. I also collaborated with faculty, staff, students, and community partners to design and facilitate workshops, events, and resources that supported Virginia Tech’s land-grant mission and Ut Prosim (“That I May Serve”) motto. Some of my notable achievements include receiving multiple awards for excellence in equity and community-engaged scholarship, producing numerous digital scholarship projects and publications, founding and leading the University Libraries’ Community-Engaged Research and Programs Working Group, designing, building, and programming numerous experiential learning labs (both on campus and in the broader community), and organizing over 1000 events in less than a decade. I am passionate about teaching, relationship building, and equitable community-engaged scholarship. I am “always a student” and am more than happy to share my knowledge and experience with others.
