At Toro, I served as an instructional designer and the divisional LMS administrator the Commercial division. I worked in close cooperation with instructional designers for other division to create diverse, flexible content that is deployable enterprise wide, while meeting the needs of the commercial division. I worked closely with subject matter experts to create technical service training for the expansive line of commercial products that Toro produces. Utilizing schematics, CAD drawings, and other resources, I created engaging and dynamic training content for service technicians. Working across divisions, I helped develop and create training for a new standard method for the troubleshooting process that Toro employs. I also worked with external vendors to outsource projects that we did not have the bandwidth to fit in along with our other projects. Working remotely strengthened my communication skills and understanding of the process of developing training. As the commercial division LMS administrator, I supported and maintained the LMS for thousands of commercial users. In addition to the tasks associated with supporting course loading, assignment, and account creation, I also worked with the core LMS team at Toro on sitewide issues. We worked to create standard procedures, activate new features, and onboard and train other divisions that were just beginning to utilize our LMS.

As the Assistant Produce Manager at the new Hy-vee store in Eagan, MN, I had the opportunity to lead a team of full and part-time employees on a daily basis. I guided my team through opening, mid-day, and closing procedures, and I was responsible for training new employees on our departmental and company standards and processes. I helped drive Hy-vee's Customer Experience focus through customer interaction and education on our products and services. I assisted with merchandising within the department, working to create the best adjacency with our products and creating attractive visual displays to highlight new, unique, and advertised products as our inventory fluctuated throughout the year.

As the Instructional Designer for General Outdoors, I had the opportunity to conceptualize, design, and create internal training for Cabela’s Retail Outfitters. I worked with cross-functional partners and subject matter experts to design cutting edge training modules using Articulate Storyline. I also helped lead weekly video conference calls with retail product training specialists, where we reinforced training concepts, conducted product highlight segments with internal merchant partners and external vendors, and fielded questions to assist our outfitters understanding of our goals. I was responsible for the evaluation of existing training materials, and the management of training blueprints for the various departments within General Outdoors.In addition to those responsibilities, I created weekly spotlight features, creating product awareness for new and seasonally relevant products, as well as products featured in Cabela’s advertisements. I also worked to create quick reference guides, product comparison sheets, departmental playbooks, and video segments to supplement our larger training objectives through weekly interaction. Through this position, I also helped create and push a larger focus on customer experience and customer service. Improving customer service through useful and impactful training was the top priority of our team, and learning and exemplifying what top-flight customer service was one of my most urgent professional goals.

I was the Visual Merchandiser responsible for the Camping and Cutlery departments at Cabela’s, where I was tasked with building executable plans and creating attractive product displays, fixtures, and end caps for Cabela’s 60+ locations. Additionally, I worked closely with our Floor Planners to better make use of available space within my areas, including creating and utilizing drive aisles, sightlines, and departmental adjacencies in existing and new stores. My role at Cabela’s also included an advisory involvement in signage and new fixture design. I assisted with the creation of everything from vendor-specific fixtures to overreaching projects that impacted the entire look, feel, and fixture capabilities within the department. I also worked with the Category Managers to recommend how to best utilize the available assortment of product in our various markets to drive the most possible sales. I was one of the primary points of contact between the corporate offices and retail locations, and I communicated with In-Store Planners to assist them in the execution of planograms, end caps, and special displays. I also utilized my relationships with them to get accurate information from the field when we needed additional information for special projects.

I worked through college at Hy-vee Food Stores in Ames, Iowa as a produce clerk. As I gained experience, I rapidly began taking part in adjacency and floor placement decisions of the various produce that came in and out of our store seasonally, as well as creating eye-catching displays at high visibility locations within the department by utilizing the natural vibrancy and colors provided to me by the produce I was working with. I also worked hard to educate myself on the more obscure and exotic product that we would bring in, so that I could provide better customer service to consumers looking to try new and unusual products that they had no prior experience with. I worked efficiently and effectively to maximize my productivity at work so that I could balance that with my studies and remain a full time student while working upwards of 30 hours per week at the store.

I was an opinion writer and editorial board member at the Iowa State Daily. I was responsible for not only my own weekly columns, but I also assisted with the introduction of ideas, selection of topics, and research, writing, and editing, of daily editorials. Through those processes, I learned how to effectively communicate via writing, especially when space constrained the amount of content I could provide. Via my work on the Editorial Board, I learned how to effectively communicate ideas verbally to the rest of my team, and strengthened my ability to lead a team in a unified effort to write together on a single topic in a cohesive manner. Working under tight deadlines on the editorial staff cultivated my ability to work quickly and under pressure, as well.

I was an undergraduate teaching assistant for Political Science 315 for Dr. Richard Mansbach. In addition to the weekly office hours, writing of test questions, and grading that I was responsible for, I also was tasked with creating a detailed review of a unit and presenting it accurately and intelligibly to undergraduates taking the course.

I was appointed to the Iowa State University Government of Student Body as an Ambassador, where I worked with a team to research and analyze student debt data in weekly meetings. We then used that information to organize a mass-lobbying effort from Iowa State University students at the State Capitol in Des Moines. There, I helped facilitate one-on-one meetings between students and legislators from their home district, to discuss the impacts of the rising cost of education on them and their families, and the best ways to mitigate those costs going forward.
