I am passionate about improving public policy decision making and the production of accurate evaluation information for decision makers. I spent 41 years helping to lead Mathematica Policy Research and have also served seven years on the Board of Directors of the Society for Benefit-Cost Analysis (including one year as president). At this point, I continue to do committee work for the Society and help out with health policy analysis for Wholebrand (a wonderful small company owned by my brother, Scott). Metro AreaFrom 2005 through July 2015 I directed the health research division at Mathematica Policy Research. During that time, we grew from a staff of about 100 people to more than 300. We studied a wide range of health services and financing issues, including Medicare and Medicaid policy, measuring the use and quality of care, effective primary care organization, care coordination, the delivery of long term support services, employment supports for people receiving disability benefits, and many other important issues related to health care and disability. In July 2015, I stepped down as managing director to focus more on conducting research and helping with strategic planning at Mathematica. My major current research focus is how cities can best address adaptation and mitigation issues related to climate change. -
