I have over 30 years of experience working with commercial, municipal, and federal clients to help develop site-cleanup strategies and act as a liaison with local, state, and federal agencies. My projects include Phase I and II investigations, RCRA remedial investigations/feasibility studies (RI/FS), support for CERCLA-regulated sites, and Part B permits for solid-waste and liquid-hazardous-waste landfills. Advancing the state of the practice in groundwater characterization, remediation optimization, and groundwater basin management, I developed the Environmental Sequence Stratigraphy (ESS) technology. Using ESS produces robust geologic models and supports conceptual site models that more accurately represent the heterogeneous conditions underlying most groundwater contaminated sites. ESS has been established as a best practice for environmental site management by the US EPA and is considered a best practice for PFAS RIs by the United States Air Force and Navy.Notably, I have led projects that redefine groundwater basin stratigraphy to improve groundwater management programs. My long-term work in the Los Angeles West Coast Basin focused on an RI/FS for a mile-long chlorinated volatile-organic-compound plume, resulting in redefining the hydrostratigraphy of the groundwater basin and helping design the extension of the Dominguez Gap Seawater Intrusion Barrier.Outside of work, Kendra and I recently became empty nesters as Audrey is a Research Assistant in Neuropsychology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and Adam is a pre-med student at San Diego State.
