Developed new features for an OSP product. Added POTs, DSL/EFM uplink and aided in a power hold up feature. Part of the POTs project included designing a proprietary POTs interface to help prevent lightning damage.
Part of a team to design the system architecture for Adtran's flagship TA5000 MSAN. Designed several cards (T1-EFM, Voice Gateway, T1 PWE, CPOTS, 48 port Combo VDSL/POTs) for the system. Each card had a processor, DDR, Xilinx fpga, Gigabit interfaces and custom ASICs. Responsible for schematic design using Mentor schematic and Hyperlynx tools. Each card.
Developed cards for a TA1500 shelf that terminated four T1s. The common cards used Xilinx fpgas and a Phillips 16 bit processor. The embedded code was written in C and some 8032 assembly. The line cards were a mix of custom ASICs and analog designs. Some VHDL was written to support MLT, an automated copper loop testing system used in telephone central.
Developed automated test sets for Adtran's highest production rate products. The stations tested over 1 million DDS products and were PC controlled, with a mix of custom and off-the-shelf equipment. The test software was written in C/C++ along with 8032 assembly. Awarded a patent for "Multichannel-capable bit error rate test system".
PTT (Processing Telecom Technology) was purchased by Adtran in November of 1989. Early responsibilities were writing application code to control analog telephone simulation equipment using RS-232 and GPIB, and customer support. Later returned to design engineer.
