Lead Scientist
Staff Scientist
Materials Engineer
Postdoctoral Researcher
I worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory in Adelphi, MD as a part of the Sensors and Electron Devices Directorate (SEDD) studying carrier dynamics in materials for UV-LED and laser applications. As a part of the Advanced Concepts and Modelling team I used a variety of optical characterization techniques to understand transport and recombination properties in bulk and low-dimensional materials and device structures. As an expert in time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) and photoluminescence (PL) measurements I conducted original research on wide band gap semiconductors including AlGaN, GaN and SiC for optoelectronics applications.
Co-Founder & Cto
• Awarded $150K SBIR grant• Contributed to award winning business plan for Voltaic Coatings, LLC• Collaborated on monomer and polymer synthesis for proof of concept research
Graduate Researcher
I completed my Ph.D. in materials science at the University of Delaware in 2014 under the advisement of Prof. Matthew Doty. My dissertation focused on energy transport in nanostructured materials. I synthesized and characterized colloidal quantum dots for solar and LED applications, using photoluminescence and time-resolved photoluminescence to observe Forster resonance energy transfer (FRET) in quantum dot architectures. I characterized non-radiative recombination in gallium arsenide double heterostructures and developed a model to quantify defect density from carrier lifetime.
Undergraduate Research Assistant
While pursuing my bachelors of engineering in materials science at the University of Michigan I conducted undergraduate research with Prof. Max Shtein and Prof. David Martin. In the Shtein group I built a transistor testing set-up and fabricated and characterized organic thin film transistors, and organic light emitting diodes from pentacence and other organic semiconductors. I also used scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) to physically characterize silver thin films in search of alternative transparent conductors for organic electronics applications. In the Martin group I worked with graduate researchers characterizing TIPS-pentacence using temperature dependent light microscopy and molecular modeling software.
