I am a Principal at DCI Engineers and, together with Erik Madsen, we run the New York office (now DCI + Madsen Engineers). I am a practicing Structural Engineer with way too much experience in structural design, construction management and education. My expertise is in design and construction of new building structures, but and also in renovation, adaptive reuse and preservation of historical buildings. I moved to New York in 2000 from Bucharest, Romania, in 2000 to pursue my doctoral degree on a research and teaching scholarship from NYU Tandon School of Engineering (then Polytechnic University of Brooklyn). I started his own company (VM Consulting) in 2011, and in 2012 I joined forces with Erik Madsen and Madsen Consulting Engineering (now DCI + Madsen Engineers). Together we developed the company from a two-person office into growing firm responsible for completing over 1500 projects in the NYC area and beyond.I hold a PhD from NYU Tandon School of Engineering with a major in Structural Engineering and a minor in Construction Management and a MS in Construction Management from the Technical University of Civil Engineering, Bucharest, Romania. I am still involved in research projects, especially related to structural degradation and I have taught as an adjunct professor various courses at Polytechnic Institute of NYU. I co-authored a book on health monitoring for infrastructure materials, published by Springer in 2018 and I have published several articles in peer reviewed journals and trade magazines.I was honored to be a member of the current NYC Department of Buildings Code Revision Structural Technical Committee for the 2022 NYC Building Code and for the proposed NYC Existing Building Code. I am an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, Structural Engineers Association of New York and MENSA.
