I am responsible for assisting the attorney with all aspects of management of case load. My duties include opening new hearing files, obtaining documents from the claims file and other sources, communicating with claimants, policyholders, vendors, claims personnel, court/commission personnel and various medical providers. I am also responsible for scheduling depositions, medical conferences and other meetings, docketing, ordering medical records, summarizing medical records, scheduling independent medical examinations, occasionally preparing purpose letters and making travel arrangements. My duties include drafting correspondence, discovery responses, minor pleadings, historical portions of pleadings and appellate documents for attorney review. I also make recommendations to the attorney regarding witnesses and exhibits to be used in the hearing process based upon my review of the file.I also have assisted with training and/or mentoring of team members as to work related issues and issues regarding the Superior Court and appellate courts. I was responsible for training the legal secretary for the Flagstaff District Office. Additionally, I provide feedback on performance evaluations of team members. I was further responsible for evaluating and making recommendations to update and streamline the policies/procedures for the legal department, and then preparing training resources regarding same.Additionally, I initiated department wide use of the electronic docketing system, which was not being utilized when I was hired.From 2001 until 2004, the attorney I worked with was also the supervisor for the subrogation department. I was the sole legal assistant responsible for all support functions regarding the subrogation matters that were in various stages of litigation.
