When I started my transition from an individual contributor to a leader in 2011, I was asked how I would approach a leadership role. My response was immediate: I would get to know the team, get to know the business, and then make an impact. Over a decade later, my philosophy has remained the same, but my approach has evolved based on learnings and the increased scope of each role. The ability to stay loyal to this belief is easy because it supports what I am most passionate about as a leader: People and results.At the root of this is caring, which requires patience, strong emotional intelligence, empathy, and the ability to influence change -- whether it be in yourself or others. This stems from my relationships with my family and friends who play an important role in my life. It is through experiences with them that I draw strength to form professional relationships that foster collaboration, commitment, and empowerment.However, retail is fast paced and requires overcoming ambiguity, staying steady in high pressure situations, quick decision making with limited time and information, and perseverance through successes and failures. Through this, I am in a constant state of curiosity, seeking to understand and listening loudly. Listening loudly takes active listening to the next level: It is not just the words you hear, but the things you see, the time it takes for the conversation, the emotions felt, and the silence.This is instrumental to my success as a leader: Each person, each store, each customer, each situation, are all unique and taking time to understand the goal allows the solution to naturally present itself. This shows up at work for me effortlessly as it originates from my love to travel the world and give back to the community; I value experiences as they allow me to see different perspectives.My achievements come from many facets of my life: Personal, team, business, & community. I am proud to tell my story about each aspect given the sum of these parts equals personal fulfillment and reinforces my commitment to remain balanced.
