Crystal Ojiako is a high school senior in Texas who is passionate about biotechnology and writing. She is an innovator at TKS, a global program that empowers young people to solve the world's biggest problems using emerging technologies. At TKS, she is working on a project that uses gene-editing to create personalised medicine for obstetrics. She is using Benchling, a cloud-based biotechnology platform, to compare the efficiency of CRISPR knockouts and single-base substitutions in targeting the G118 allele, and to synthesise the CRISPR guides that will deliver the rest of the cells with gRNA. She is also learning about the ethical, social, and legal implications of gene-editing and personalised medicine.In addition, she is a freelance writer who covers topics related to social justice, such as racism, sexism, and human rights on Medium. She also participates in the UIL Literary Criticism Contest, where she demonstrates her knowledge and analysis of English-language literary history and concepts.Crystal is committed to continuing her independent projects and learning new skills in fields such as pharmacology, dermatology, and immunology. She is also interested in web development and has learned HTML and CSS. She aims to use her talents and interests to make a positive impact on the world and to inspire others to do the same.
