I am a strategic Change leader with 15 years of experience across diverse industries and sectors. My expertise is in taking on the people and priorities side of climate initiatives. When working on a complex issue like ESG and climate change, there is rarely just one right answer. There can be an ideal "in theory" right answer, but many more "in practice" possible approaches that actually foster buy-in, action, momentum and results.I love untangling complexity and am an expert at convening and facilitating diverse stakeholders to determine and agree on the issues to take on and how best to do it, based on sound interpretation of the data defining the context they are in. I have a demonstrated background in organizing people to better achieve missions through leading systemic culture change and developing people processes. And, I am skilled in building successful movements for change including capability building programs, communications and marketing campaigns. I've written 4 books, given 2 TEDx talks, and keynoted around the world. As an independent organizational development consultant, my track record centers on work with nonprofits, whose funding and focus on organization capacity is often overlooked and underserved, though an absolute necessity to achieve their worthy mission. I create or improve ways of working to better achieve the mission. I assess organizations, build people management process, and facilitate culture transformations. From my work with the Sierra Club on a national structural transformation to the Atlanta Community Food Bank on talent mobility, work planning & moving to a skill based culture, I am honored to make an impact in this arena. In 2012, my initial work focused on groundbreaking a path for ways of working in a digital world through harnessing cross-generational lessons. My book, The Millennial Myth has sold nearly 10,000 copies. I improved workplace culture, DEI, and employee engagement in industries like utilities and energy. In 2015, Lisa MD Owens and I developed a new instructional design model, the Learning Cluster Design model, supported by ATD. We are leading a change in the training field from one-and-done, one-size-fits-all courses to multi-asset learning initiatives. Our book, Designing for Modern Learning, has 100+ reviews on Amazon and through my leadership of LCD Group, I spread this new capability through our certification course. My latest book, co-authored with Janette Williams, Social Equations, helps STEM professionals navigate social dynamics quickly and consistently.

Social Equations: The Stem Professional'S User Guide To Building Positive RelationshipsGreenleaf Publishing Oct 2022 - Oct 2022Saltaire, West Yorkshire, GbMy latest book addresses a crucial gap: understanding psychosocial theories & skills for Science Tech Eng Math professionals. Why crucial? These individuals are the ones designing innovations for our society. They ask great questions on how to make sure these are helping humanity. But without the education on psychology, org change, neuroscience, and other sociological fields, they are left to answer these tough questions on their own.Tech professionals today need our help - not our judgment. As we worry about the impacts of AI, we need to upskill tech professionals on the principles of human systems so they can make sure these technologies put people first, not tech for tech's sake.Social Equations draws on a vast diversity of business and psychological theories and distills the most essential at the individual, interpersonal, team, and team leadership levels. It's a reference guide that helps STEM professionals & students easily grasp self and people leadership concepts and put them into action. This book is perfect for including in onboarding and leadership development programs for tech professionals, as well as college curriculum. -
The Millennial Myth: Transforming Misunderstanding Into Workplace BreakthroughsBerrett-Koehler Publishers Apr 2017 - Apr 2017Oakland, California, Us8,500 copies sold worldwide, 50+ keynotes, reaching 20,000+ people. Translated to Chinese (Traditional).200+ students have taken the Managing Millennials course giving it a 4.5 out of 5 stars, offered through Velociteach, a PMP course provider. The Millennial Myth is the ultimate guide for leaders who want to break the cycle of complaining about generations and move to effective leadership that creates more engaged and positive relationships in the workplace.I focus on the problems behind the problem. I present the five biggest complaints about younger generations: that they are lazy, entitled, disloyal, need constant praise, and have issues with authority. But I show how each of these has nothing to do with personality traits, and everything to do with the context of a digital age. Rather than leading with generations in mind, the much stronger move is to lead with a digital, globalized world in mind. I shortcut the work for you on how to change your workplace to leverage all generations of employees in today's environment. -
