Crystal James is a Senior Consultant and a Functional Safety Engineer for DNV GL’s Oil & Gas Services department. Since joining the Risk Advisory section in 2008, she has been responsible for asset risk and reliability services including performance forecasting (both upstream and downstream) as well as FMECA based projects (specialty in BOP controls) and Functional Safety scopes of work. Projects range from analyzing assets such as FPSOs, platform topsides, subsea gathering networks and onshore LNG facilities. Recent engagements include business development lead and analyst for the Functional Safety service line as well as HAZOP/HAZID scopes of work. As both an analyst and project manager, Crystal is responsible for constant client interaction and ensuring that each project is efficiently managed in order to meet/exceed client expectations. This includes providing decision making support and recommending measures for improved efficiency. She also actively trains and mentors other colleagues within the Oil & Gas Services department on technical skills (functional safety, performance forecasting and PHAs) and soft skills (project management, client communication and best practices). In addition to executing and managing a variety of projects, Crystal has developed numerous proposal and bids as part of business development activities. She has gained business planning skills through internal and external training courses (e.g. Mercuri Pioneering the Future, Centricity) as well as through her experience within DNV GL. Additionally, she has become a leader for the FMECA service line by becoming the main facilitator for FMECAs within the Oil & Gas Services department, developing marketing material, training colleagues and continually striving for implementation of best practices.
