My passion and work revolves around collaborating with artists on projects and helping them convert ideas from verbal descriptions and sketches to fantastic physical creations. Whether it's a giant interactive kinetic sea monster, hundreds of networked light sculptures around a city, or an ambient environmental experience, no project is too large, or too complex.I'm often involved in projects from end to end, working with clients through their project's conceptualisation, development, prototyping, testing, and production. Allowing me to do so are my skills and experience in the design and production of kinetic, illuminated, and interactive systems (hardware and software), along with CAD modelling, and bespoke fabrication technologies and techniques. With such extensive involvement, I'm generally also part of the installation team for many projects, and have been responsible for the reliable operation of artworks installed at numerous major cultural events around the world.

In the third year of the Product Design course at UTS, students undertake the subject 'Smart Design', which tasks them with designing a novel solution involving programmable electronics, for an opportunity which has not recently seen much, if any, innovation. My role in the subject is running weekly technical workshop tutorials, both in person and online, which introduce students to the world of opportunities made possible by interactive electronics, and provide them the skills required to design and produce their own interactive products. This includes the creation and delivery of a series of lectures and structured workshops, along with individual guidance and assistance in the development and realisation of their final designs and functional prototypes.

During UTS's 2019-20 Summer session I co-created and lead a special elective subject for Product Design undergraduate students. The subject required four small teams of students to each design, prototype, and produce an activated large scale public artwork to be displayed at one of Australia's largest public art festivals. By providing the students the opportunity to work end-to end on a professional level project, with a real-world client, brief, and budget, we exposed them to real-world pressures. This helped them develop skills normally acquired only through professional experience, and elevated their quality of work to professional standards.

My work here centred on realising magical artworks from verbal descriptions and sketches on paper. I was responsible for developing many of the models and plans for constructing our sculptures, along with designing and developing the interactive experiences which many of them offered, and installing the artworks on site. Within this, my activities included conceptualisation, design development, CAD modeling, fabrication of prototypes and final products, and especially the design and development of the electrical, electronic, and software systems required to turn our artworks from frozen beauties into illuminated, interactive, moving marvels. I also travelled internationally extensively in this role, and was responsible for ensuring artworks on tour met their tight install deadlines through playing a key role in the development and execution of efficient build, test, and repair strategies.

My role here involved working with the director of the Integrated Product Design (formerly Industrial Design) department on the design and prototyping of a number of projects including sporting goods, home accessories, packaging, and websites.

During my time at amigo and amigo I was involved in concept ideation, refinement, and detailing; CAD modeling, and refinement of previous models for CNC routing; and the manufacture and assembly of prototypes and final products, particularly those involving electronics, lights, and timber.
