About Christopher Strickland
I am an expert in mechanistic modeling and analysis, particularly as applied to problems in population ecology and epidemiology, with over a decade of experience. I have experience with situations where data is sparse and I can readily consult on assumptions and risks for most types of models. Approaches I have used in the past include differential equations, integral equations, stochastic processes, individual-based models, networks, and combinations of these. I am familiar with techniques for parameter estimation and sensitivity analysis, including Bayesian approaches, and I have worked on multiscale problems, 2D and 3D spatial models, collective motion, compartmental models, and more. I additionally have over ten years of experience with software implementation, simulation, visualization, and analysis of mechanistic models in Python, including multiprocessing, SciPy/NumPy, Cython, PyCUDA, Pandas, NetworkX, Git, and others.

CurrentThrough the end of 2023, I have published 25 papers, primarily in top-quartile mathematical biology journals, and I have supervised five mathematics PhD students (two receiving concurrent MS in Statistics) and an MS student. Three of these students have already graduated with their PhD, and all were immediately hired into either a tenure-track academic position or a postdoc position. I collaborate with Oak Ridge National Lab as the PI on a $450,000 subcontract (over 1.5 years with possible renewal) from the VA studying quantitative environmental factors for opioid use disorder in veterans. Collaborative travel and workshops for my other research projects have been supported by the American Institute of Mathematics, the Simons Foundation, the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis, the Institute for Advanced Study, and the American Mathematics Society.

This position was joint with my appointment at SAMSI. My responsibilities included taking a lead role in multiple international and domestic collaborations that spanned more than six fields of science and mathematics and included teams of up to twelve researchers. On a day to day basis, I helped coordinate working groups, conducted research on the interface of mathematics, science, and statistics, and worked to publish papers.
