Supporting federal research on critical minerals and carbon storage at the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL)

Worked on an international, interdisciplinary team of graduate students to develop a CCUS research project through stages of site assessment, subsurface characterization and modeling, economic analysis, and development of a risk mitigation plan under the mentoring of CCUS professionals from ExxonMobil, Denbury, and other major companies.

My dissertation work investigates chemical signals recorded in limestone to understand ancient drivers of global climate change. I planned and carried out field excursions to Nevada (summer 2018) and Sweden (summer 2019) to collect Ordovician-aged (~460 million years old) limestone samples for chemical analysis. I completed sample preparation including rock polishing, powdering, and chemical purification at Ohio State University. I've made >150 isotope measurements (87Sr/86Sr, εNd, δ44Ca) of rock samples and fossils (conodonts) using a thermal ionization mass spectrometer (TIMS) at Ohio State University. The first chapter of my dissertation work has been published in the journal "GEOLOGY".

Performed manual labor for multiple land conservation projects on public lands (BLM, National Parks) across southern Utah

Studied REE systematics in fossil bone to understand processes of terrestrial fossilization. Analyzed mammalian and reptilian fossils from the Badlands, South Dakota across the Eocene–Oligocene transition. Characterized ancient soil (paleosol) characteristics to understand hydrology of burial environments.
