The recipient of many international awards, pianist Cuong Hung Van has performed throughout the United States, Asia, Australia, and Europe. Concert engagements in the United States include Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and the Phillips Collection and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. In addition to winning the gold medal at Ohio's Cincinnati World Piano Competition, Cuong Hung Van was also honored with the first prize at the Frina Awerbuch International Piano Competition in New York City and the second prize at the Hilton Head International Piano Competition.Cuong Hung Van is the Music Director and Co-Founder of the Loudoun Lyric Opera Company. Being a frequent guest conductor, he has returned to his home town to conduct the Saigon’s City Opera and Symphony Orchestra several times. Notably, he appeared with the ensemble in a performance of Brahms’s German Requiem. In celebration of the composers’ birth-year bicentennial celebration, he performed in his “Chopin Timeless”, and “All Schumann Program”, a series of piano recitals, in addition to directing Mozart’s “Don Giovanni”. And again, together with the world to celebrate the bicentennial anniversary of the great Hungarian pianist and composer Franz Liszt, Cuong Hung Van performed the composer’s music in concerts. In October of the same year, he had the honor to feature Liszt music to the Vietnamese audience, and was the guest performer, faculty of the master classes, and principle lecturer of the First International Piano Festival held in Saigon, Vietnam. Successful collaborations with the Loudoun Lyric Opera have been the major focus of Cuong Van’s career. Recently his piano solo art has been under new revisions, which also reflects his passion for the popular medium and the Romantic composers’ works. This Chopin Etudes recital series marks his new interest in the beloved field and his return to a long-term committing period of the piano performance.
