Overview• Communicated with claimants, employers, and various medical professionals to gather information regarding the application for payment of, and ongoing management of STD or LTD benefits.Oral and Written Communications• Reviewed claim submissions to determine if all required information was provided. Evaluated the information to approve, deny, or escalate the claim for a higher level of review. • In the cases of denial, appropriate paperwork was prepared and submitted for rejection to the Group Supervisor for the Midwest region, which was dependent upon the severity of the medical condition. In the cases accepted, managed the case by consulting with the claimant, the medical facility, the in-house team of physicians and my supervisor to ensure additional documentation was received, reviewed, documented and processed in a timely manner. • Updated and accurately documented system and claim files on actions taken. Research and Investigation• Managed of over 1000 claimants under the JC Penney Company and Goodyear Tire Company policies within the Midwest Region, covering Minnesota, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Indiana, Ohio and Kansas. • Conducted investigations to determine whether or not to accept liability and to what degree. Approved or denied benefits accordingly. Financial Management• Audited the payout amount previously determined for accuracy and the potential for discontinuance or reduction in future payments. The audit required to recalculate the liability for each claim, apply all appropriate offsets such as social security, workers compensation, and third parties within a pre-designated time frame for appropriate payouts.
