About Curtis Clay

Curtis started his career in education in 1985 with a school on the Texas border in West Texas. He has been involved with School Safety and Security since 1987. Curtis worked extensively with at risk and emotionally disturbed youth, emergency management planning, school safety audits, and overall youth violence prevention throughout his career. He became an employee with the Texas School Safety Center just after it's inception in 1999 and had a key role with establishing the foundation of the organization. He was initially brought on board as the Training and Media Supervisor, but moved to Director of Programs as the Center continued to grow. Curtis had a lead role in the development of the Texas Unified School Safety and Security Standards that is built around the four phases of the emergency management system. After 18 years of service to TxSSC, he relocated and retired from the Center as Associate Director for the School Safety Education Division of the Center in the fall of 2016. Although retired from the Center, he did not retire from the mission of school safety.
