Serve as a strategic business partner responsible for providing executive leadership and guidance of human resources activities and initiatives, and for achieving business results through effective human resources strategies. Represent management in negotiations and administration of collective bargaining agreements with various labor organizations. Evaluate and recommend proposals for wage and compensation increases for staff based on recruitment initiatives and challenges, staffing effectiveness and efficiencies, projected additional labor costs and operational savings. Partner with Regional Teams to expand the company’s core values through employee engagement strategies, including implementation of employee engagement committees in all non-union facilities. Ensure legal and operational compliance with federal and state regulations, including state regulatory agencies, EEO, FLSA, FMLA, ADA and OSHA. Provide ongoing, strategic and operational oversight of 71 skilled nursing centers and assisted living facilities, totaling more than 7,500 licensed beds and 8,500 employees. Lead, advise, coach and develop Regional Directors of Human Resources.  Led management’s strategy and preparations to provide staff coverage for the same day, 24-hour union strike at 19 care centers. Each of the 19 care centers were successfully staffed in compliance with regulatory staffing requirements and residents received a high standard of care.  Partnered with Safety Department to reduce workers’ compensation loss claims by over $3 million. Promoted to the Division Vice President of Human Resources position after successfully serving as Regional Director of Human Resources, covering 9 care centers in 7 states.

Responsible for integrating and assimilating acquisition of new facilities, including management and oversight of human resources operations. Developed, implemented and maintained human resources policies and procedures. Initiated review and revision of policies and procedures to achieve consistency among facilities. Drafted and implemented hospital delegations of authority and automated the process for capturing contract-agency hours worked and expense dollars. Evaluated workload drivers for non-clinical positions, leading to reductions in staff and labor costs. Administered compensation program, aligning facility compensation programs with local labor market. Led ongoing union-avoidance training. Ensured legal and operational compliance with federal and state regulations, including Joint Commission, EEO, FLSA, FMLA, ADA and OSHA. Provided human resource and change management leadership for the start-up of 5 hospitals, the acquisition of 3 healthcare facilities and the sale of 3 healthcare facilities, effectively managing an average of 1 acquisition or divesture every 6 months. Provided ongoing, strategic, and operational over sight to integrate and manage 9 long-term acute and inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, totaling more than 400 licensed beds and 1,400 employees. Key player in implementing transition plan for acquisition of healthcare company consisting of 23 hospitals and 4,000 employees. Facilitated RehabCare Hospital Division growth from 4 hospitals to 35 hospitals in a 5-year period. Oversaw and delivered pro forma staffing and wage scales for hospital start-ups. Spearheaded and delivered union-avoidance, diversity and respect training to hospitals. Served in leading senior management role in 60-bed hospital turnaround, operationally and culturally. Brought staffing to adequate levels while reducing expenses.
