I am Vice President of IATEFL, a Trustee and Director, and Chair of the Publications Committee, and will be President from 2025-7. I am also the Chair of the newly-formed IATEFL Sustainability Working Group helping to establish the organisation as a thought leader and source of advice and ideas around the interface between ELT and climate change education. I was a co-founder of the ELTons award-winning 'ELT Footprint' movement.I am an ELT consultant, trainer, author and speaker operating globally. My goal is to help educational organisations to facilitate the most effective learning environment, within their local setting. I have worked in a range of locations around the world, especially in fragile environments - that is conflict or post-conflict zones – and the scope of my work is often determined by challenging on-ground circumstances.I have a diverse client base including government organisations such as the British Council, ministries of education, educational publishers and private language schools. I have been involved in projects in over 30 countries and have worked in this field since 1981.I have recently been working on teacher education and Monitoring and Evaluation projects in Iraq, Jordan, Ukraine and Palestine for the British Council, under their 'Language for Resilience' Initiative, and with school inspectors and teachers on two British Council projects in Morocco and Saudi Arabia.Recent projects have also included leading and participating in several climate change education projects for the British Council globally under their 'Climate Action in Language Education' initiative, including: co-authoring climate change-related ELT lessons plans and co-authoring a handbook to support their use;participating in a podcast around ELT and the climate crisis;speaking events, including joining panels for the British Council on the ‘Climate Connection: Conversation for Change’ and ‘Going Global’ conference both in June 2021;chairing a forum around ELT Assessment and Climate Change at British Council ‘New Directions South East Asia 2021’.I have recently published two books:'50 Ways to be a Greener Teacher'. Taylor Francis due 2024.My volunteer work in the educational sector includes sitting on the EVE mentoring project board, working towards a more equitable ELT community, and volunteering for Green Action ELT.
