As an Associate Director in the Corporate Finance team, I worked across our Valuation and Strategy, Capital Projects and Infrastructure, and Quantitative Risk Analytics teams. While the work was broad, I had a focus on infrastructure (including Canterbury post-earthquake redevelopment projects) and agricultural businesses (such as wool, dairy, red meat, irrigation and agribusiness). I worked on major projects related to Christchurch's post-earthquake recovery and reconstruction and am extremely proud of my small contributions to these projects. I also worked on various financial modelling, valuation (including in litigation support), merger and acquisition, due diligence, business case, quantitative risk, and commercial advisory roles with a variety of clients.

As a Manager I took on more leading roles in client engagements and increased responsibility for internal team management (including workflow management and career and performance coaching for junior staff). I continued to have a core focus on financial modelling, business and asset valuation, and mergers and acquisitions. I also began working as part of our national Capital Projects and Infrastructure and Quantitative Risk Analytics teams. With the Capital Projects team I worked on projects such as commercial and economic business cases (including under the Better Business Case framework) and with the Quantitative Risk team I applied tools such as Monte Carlo simulation, Value-at-Risk and decision trees to various commercial, project management and option analysis projects.

After transferring to the Christchurch Corporate Finance team, I continued to advise clients on financial modelling, business and asset valuation, and mergers and acquisitions. As the Corporate Finance team has a broad range of clients, I gained experience working with individuals through to large corporates, across a variety of sectors.

As a Senior Analyst in the Finance and Economics group, I performed the same role as when I was an Analyst, but with a greater degree of responsibility (including overseeing and training new analysts).

As an Analyst in the Finance and Economics group, my primary clients were in the energy and infrastructure sectors. I delivered services including and related to valuations, weighted average cost of capital estimates, mergers and acquisitions, and various other ad hoc financial analysis. The core skill I developed in this role was financial modelling, particularly constructing discounted cash flows models and integrated financial statements.

This role was split between two internal teams - Business Solutions and Corporate Finance. As part of the Business Solutions team I assisted with tax returns, preparing financial statements and journal entries. My role in the corporate finance team was to provide analytical support to the senior team members.
