I am a regular contributor to the New York Times, where I write on a wide array of topics, including on foster care, adoption, assisted reproduction, and other subjects related to nontraditional families and parenting. I also write stories related to physical and mental health and wellbeing. From May 2014-January 2015, I authored a weekly personal essay column, called the “donor diaries”.

As the communications specialist with the Veatch Program, the philanthropic arm of the Unitarian Universalist congregation at Shelter Rock, I oversee all communications needs for the foundation — including the crafting of newsletters, power point presentations, blog posts, informational 2-pagers, and other communication materials as needed. for the Veatch Program, the philanthropic arm of the Unitarian Universalist congregation at Shelter Rock. I also develop year-long visioning and messaging campaigns for the organization that help guide its communications and programmatic work. I also author the Veatch Program’s annual report, which includes major accomplishments and short profiles on each of the foundation’s nearly 200 grantees — which include many of the country's foremost community organizing groups working on racial justice, economic justice, LGBTQ rights, gender justice, and more.

Since joining GWK in 2014, I have helped grow the company into the world's largest online resources for gay, bi and trans men. In addition to conceiving and executing editorial vision for the media company, I have helped craft comprehensive guides, videos and full curriculum to help queer men navigate the complicated paths to fatherhood available to us, namely: adoption, foster care, and surrogacy. Our work to increase the visibility of queer fatherhood has earned GWK four GLAAD nominations. I am also host of GWK the Podcast, a weekly show with topics and guests of importance to the LGBTQ parenting community.

Since 2020, I have contributed stories to Condé Nast Traveller that focus on places and people of interest in the LGBTQ community around the world.

From 2014 to 2022, I developed, implemented and oversaw the communications plan to support CLP’s goal of preparing community college students in careers in community change work. As part of this work, I oversaw daily communication needs for national CLP network, including website and social media management, crafting email announcements, blogs, social media posts, and newsletters, and handling media inquiries. I also built brand awareness and increase name recognition of CLP by developing and disseminating original content, such as blog posts, student profiles, and thought pieces, via email, social media, and traditional media outlets.

From 2014 to 2018, I worked as a Senior Policy Advisor to Gale Brewer, the former Manhattan Borough President, on issues related to public health and transportation policy. During my time with Borough President Brewer, I authored numerous policy reports related to these issues, including one participatory action research project that measured the compliance of Manhattan's street corners with the Americans with Disabilities Act. I also authored a report with numerous suggestions for expanding urban agricultural projects and green gardens in New York City, several of which were adopted as policy. As her lead transportation policy analyst, I also helped enact a wide range of programs and policies aimed at reducing congestions, expanding bike lanes, and promoting safer streets for residents of Manhattan.

A the Policy and Communications Coordinator at the country's first and largest organization dedicated to exonerating the wrongfully convicted, I was primarily responsible for the development and execution of comprehensive media strategies to advance public policy initiatives. I also worked to secure dozens of media stories in regional and national print, broadcast and online outlets, and increase awareness and public support through online organizing. My work helped lead to dozens of policy changes to benefit the wrongfully convicted in states across the country. I also worked closely with staff members, exonerees and other designated spokespeople in preparation for print and broadcast interviews.

-Assist in planning and executing events associated with the Sexuality, Gender and Human Rights Program, such as the “Global Queer Series,” a bimonthly forum that features LGBTQ advocates from around the world, and “Gay Rights as Human Rights,” a yearly, week-long conference featuring academics and practitioners within the field of LGBTQ rights and policy;-Conduct and support research initiatives, trainings and other events for Harvard students and the broader community exploring issues of gender, sexuality and human rights;

-Conducted research and feasibility analyses regarding several NYC-based economic and workforce development initiatives, including the creation of a regional infrastructure bank, sick pay legislation, and pension reform;-Authored and edited briefs, press releases and other communications materials for Public Advocate De Blasio for use in press conferences and Council meetings.

-Developed and implemented comprehensive communications strategies for a variety of reports and campaigns;-Worked with community members to conduct participatory research projects focused on issues concerning low- income communities, including a project to identify and map vacant condominiums in 9 low-income communities;-Primary researcher and author on several research reports related to community development and low-income housing;-Supervised 3-5 staff members and interns

-Coordinated over 20 grassroots organizations in the “Right to the City-NYC” alliance, a network focused on combating the gentrification and displacement of low-income people, LGBTQ youth, and immigrant populations in New York City;-Facilitated the development of the Right to the City-NYC Policy Platform, which includes over 25 policy recommendations to improve low-income communities;-Developed and led a campaign to convert empty and foreclosed buildings in New York City into affordable housing;-Raised all funds to support personnel and programmatic needs of the Right to the City-NYC alliance;

-Directed field operations for SAVE DADE’s “No on Amendment 2” campaign, an effort to stop the rewriting ofFlorida’s state constitution to ban a variety of rights for LGBTQ couples in the 2008 election cycle;-Recruited, trained and supervised over 300 LGBTQ and allied youth in canvassing and phone banking efforts;-Conducted fundraising activities to support field operations;-Outreached to local elected officials and media outlets.

-Founder and lead organizer for the Public Housing Campaign, an effort to preserve and improve public housing inNYC;-Developed all communications materials for the Public Housing Campaign, including press releases, press kits, campaign brochures and reports;-Researched and analyzed public housing and workforce development policy locally and nationally;-Developed and conducted skills-building and media trainings with public housing residents;-Recruited, trained, and supervised teams of over 30 volunteer outreach workers in electoral campaigns to encourage low-income people to vote in local elections;-Supervised 3-5 staff and interns on the Public Housing and Electoral Engagement campaigns.
