Data Centre Lead

London, United Kingdom

As the lead for the MPS data centre environment I am responsible for completely changing how the met police deliver and consume data centre real estate. My primary role is to ensure that the new services are ultra efficient & cost effective, extremely secure, are aligned with the new SIAM & Tower provider model, are flexible and modular in design, meet the current and future trends in both on premise private and off premise public cloud services and are MPS and industry compliant. My other key role is to orchestrate a smooth transition from our incumbent supplier managed distributed estate under very ambitious timescales. The distributed ICT estate will be migrated onto a consolidated, highly virtualised, centralised and automated new set of platforms load balanced across highly resilient cutting edge facilities. The MPS is a complex and very challenging environment to work and operate in but it is a great challenge. Having the opportunity to make a real difference for citizens of London and helping to improve the way the police can effectively operate is very rewarding indeed. The Metropolitan Police Service is going through a significant programme of change whilst having to meet significant financial savings. This includes rationalisation of the property estate to support a citizen focused approach at a reduced cost. ICT is a key enabler of this change. The MPS needs to offer online channels so that citizens have more choice and flexibility in their interactions with the police service.A core goal of the MPS is to reduce crime in London. This is coupled with the challenges of a reducing property estate and the delivery of the MetChange corporate programme, which will transform the way that the Met is organised and operates.
