As a CPA my professional qualifications are underpinned by a strong accounting and finance focus, but a keen interest in all other aspects of a business led me into a number of more balanced Commercial roles. As a Chief Financial Officer I have focused strongly on building a team that has a solid understanding of the business operations. This has then be leveraged to bring together all stakeholders in the business to enhance the delivery of commonly agreed goals.My current role is focussed on the financial control of a business closure program that requires a high degree of governance and significant interaction with a wide range of key stakeholders.In recent years I have been managing the varying commercial challenges associated with large scale power generation operations and open cut mining activities, operating in an evolving and potentially volatile energy market. From experience I know the importance that the Finance/Commercial function has a solid understanding and is closely tied to all aspects of a business from Health Safety and Environmental systems, Sales and Marketing, Pricing and Planning, Trading, Operations/Manufacturing, Risk Management, Compliance and Regulatory and People & Culture/HR. This solid understanding then leads to the development of Commercial systems, processes and frameworks that all managers within a business can utilise and contribute effectively to.
