I managed Perth Zoo's environmental performance at a strategic level. This included planning, development and delivery of sustainability projects, detailed analysis of environmental performance criteria (energy, water, waste, emissions, materials), setting environmental targets, project management, presenting recommendations to staff and senior management, management of utility bill payments and development of new contracts. I also represented the organisation on television and radio interviews, and presented at conferences.

I represented the Western Australian government in natural gas security for the state. This position followed from the 2008 Varanus island gas refinery explosion (Apache) where the state lost 30% of its gas supply for a number of weeks. This disruption had major impacts on the ability to deliver electricity to WA residents. I worked with industry and government stakeholders to develop new Strategic and Operational plans for responding to a 'Gas Supply Disruption' which were approved by the State Emergency Management Committee.In earlier roles within the organization I worked in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

I continued development of a supermarket 'self-service' checkout system based on mobile barcode readers attached to trolleys. This system pre-dated the common self-service systems in place at Woolworths. We delivered a working prototype at a Dewsons facility. After a year of developing in my first year out from University I had concerns over the management of the project and decided to leave to pursue a career in the energy/environmental sector.
