I led the Border Agency's response to high profile litigation – including cases before the Court of Appeal, Supreme Court and European Court of Human Rights. I managed a rolling programme of changes to the Immigration Rules. I led on overall policy for the immigration appeals system – including appeal rights and the operational impact of legislation, regulations and procedure rules.

Highlights include:Leading the Asylum Improvement Project - this was a business process improvement project that included representing the agency on international fact finding visits, operational research, process redesign and stakeholder management. Implementing a new tribunal system for immigration appeals - I led the Home Office policy work to transfer 100,000 immigration appeals a year into a new tribunal structure created by the Ministry of Justice. This was a complex project involving a public consultation, a white paper, primary legislation and negotiations with ministers, officials and lawyers - as well as discussions with judges in England, Wales and Scotland.
