In gaining the Senior Designer level my role has evolved a little and I have had to developto adapt to it.Whilst directly looking after several Depts; Casual Trousers, Loungewear and Swimwear, my role also involves being the Senior Designer for the ‘Easy Main range’ Department.Acting as a mentor I offer design and style advice and solutions to colleagues with problemin other areas.I closley manage a trainee designer and am stand-in for the Design Manager when he is unavailable.

As an employee of Matalan, I have worked on the Homeware and Menswear departments, designingfor several areas between them both. I progressed steadily to different roles, gainingvaluable design and life/people skills.Starting my career within the Home Dept, as a CAD assistant (Trainee), I have worked on severalareas including soft furnishings, kitchen textiles and ceramics. I then moved onto my real passion,menswear clothing, working on a variety of product categories and other tasks.In addition to the key skills and experience above, here are just some of the invaluable experiencesand skills I have gained whilst training and working for Matalan: Repeat pattern and print design High standard level using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, (as well as advancement in other computer programs such as Easy Weave, In Design, Excel and Word). Working as a CAD designer within the Homeware Design Department I assisted on several areasat first, such as bedding prints, labelling and collating mood and colour boards for the whole Dept.I then concentrated more on kitchen textiles, ceramic print and shape design, and table mat design.

I was employed to assist a fast paced design team dealing with up and coming trendsin mainstream men’s fashion. I assisted with tasks using various design methods frommanual freehand spec and graphic drawing as well as CAD with packages such as Adobe Photoshop& Illustrator. I applied finishing touches for presentations using Microsoft Word, Powerpoint &Excel of which I used the programs on both PC & Mac.Typical tasks set to me included Graphic and Logo design for garments, slogan research invarious forms and fonts, garment design and spec compiling, trend, colour & fabric boardresearch, along with general organising of the design and garment archive. As well as design I also assisted with presenting to Buyers and attended meetings withsuppliers and assisted in the preparation of the A/W press show.
