My role was as a senior employee which meant that I would regularly take on responsibility for the running of a shift meaning I would be in charge of all cash handling, handle any issues with customers and also take on any managerial tasks needed for the day. I continued to work in my role as a senior staff member until early 2014 where the position of full-time supervisor became available and was offered to me despite still being at university.

I was originally hired and trained as a team leader at Barburrito however I only worked in the role for approximately 2 weeks before being offered the role of assistant manager due to my exemplary performance. My role as assistant manager is to work closely with the general manager of the store and operations manager of the company in all areas of running a successful restaurant. My responsibilities range from creating positive relationships with customers to marketing and increasing sales, ordering and managing stock levels, managing maintenance issues, assisting with hiring, helping to manage the HR side of the business, helping with rota's and managing staff. I have also recently had my role increase to be in charge of the kitchen, meaning that I am responsible for the staff and all operational issues in the kitchen from product quality to maintaining a clean and organised environment and record keeping.

My official job title was food services supervisor however my role was to be in charge of the subway store and report to my operations manager who ran all retail outlets in the Royal Brisbane Hospital so my role was somewhere between manager and assistant manager of the store. I was in charge of all ordering, introduced a new till system, assisted with rotas, assisted with stock level management and all other operational issues of the store. This role was also crucial in the development of my management and leadership skills. I was exposed to both excellent and terrible management skills around me and from that developed my own management style which has been well received from my staff and from my superiors.

I was employed in a causal capacity by this small, recently started design collective. I worked on a when needed basis and came in to assist my colleagues in the town planning tasks at the firm, design work and architectural documentation. In December 2010 I decided to take some time off from university to pursue a childhood dream of working a ski season in Canada. I got a job at Manning Park Resort in British Columbia as a cashier at a daylodge cafeteria on the ski hill. I worked in the cashier role for a couple of weeks before being asked to step into the role of cook. After excelling at both roles over my first 6 weeks at the company I was asked to take over as the manager of the daylodge cafeteria, where I also took on the role of head cook. I improved the menu options by adding new items as well as adjusting portion sizes and item prices to increase profits as well as improving the experience for customers. I was also in charge of the 8 employees at the daylodge. I wrote all rota's and had to manage staff hours as well as settle any staff disputes or address any issues in the workplace. I learnt many things about people management in this role and I was able to increase staff morale and also get a bonus from management towards the end of my tenure.

This was my first permanent job. I took this job after completion of high school and it was my introduction to the customer service/hospitality industry. In this role I learnt the foundations for good customer service and people management.

While studying architecture at university I decided that I wanted some experience in the industry I wished to enter after my education so I took a role at a small architecture firm. I worked at the firm a minimum of one day per week during semester and up to 3-4 days per week in university breaks on top of my job at subway. My role was very diverse, I was there to assist the directors and architects in the office in anything that they required. These roles included simple tasks such as answering phones, replying to emails, organising meetings, taking meeting minutes and filing as well as more complicated tasks such as architectural detailing and drafting, organisation of tender documents and assisting in some design work.
